Review Originally released in 1998, the game has developed a strong following. The Brood War expansion module is available for the game. You can also order the BattleChest edition which has both the original game and the expansion pack. The game takes place on planets far from earth. In the game you can play the Terrans, the Protoss, or the Zerg. As is usually the case, each race has its own strengths and weaknesses and require different strategies when you play them. As cheap as you can buy it now, if you're an RTS gamer who for some reason hasn't tried this yet, it's worth a look. If you're new to RTS games, I would start with another one. |

Description Brood Wars is the addon expansion set for the massively succesful RTS (real time strategy) game Starcraft. Brood Wars adds a whole new set of single player missions (notable for their consistent and engaging plot) several new units and upgrades for each race, and great new map types and mission editor functionality. Brood wars is a great multiplayer game, very playable over a 56Kbps modem, still quite popular with both mac and PC users (beat you wintel friends :) ) and free (battle.net, blizzards online gaming service, does NOT provide internet access-- i.e. you have to have AOL, earthlink, or the like) with a ladder ranking system and cheating prevention (by blizzard, who are pretty good about fixing hacks in updates). Brood wars requires Starcraft (full version) to play, but is a great game (though old) with new updates still being released. |
